About Us
|
cycas has been operating for 23 years, providing both landscape design and landscape construction services. During that time we have designed and constructed gardens on some of the finest residences in Melbourne, many of which have performed exceptionally well in various housing industries awards over the years. |
|
Along with landscape design, cycas incorporates a number of other services related to the landscape industry including materials selection advice and sourcing, irrigation design, plant brokerage, and project management. Our reputation as landscape designers has been enhanced by winning a Silver Medal at the 2003 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, where cycas designed and constructed a contemporary arid garden featuring only drought tolerant native plants, sawn bluestone pavement, granite features and rock surface treatments. At the 2004 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, cycas was awarded the “W.A. Comeadow” Gold Award for outstanding design as well as a Silver Medal in the Show Garden category for our “Density” exhibit which featured cantilevered granite platforms, a contemporary pavilion, lush plantings and artistic glass sculptures. The 2005 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show provided cycas with yet another opportunity to showcase its design diversity. We presented an outdoor room roofed with steel and glass, walled with render and vertical strata stone, and floored with granite. Feature plantings included olives and red cordylines with succulents, cycads and grasses providing mass effect. A huge granite and stainless steel water feature included a fire as a novel approach to outdoor heating. cycas was again rewarded with a Silver Medal in the Show Garden category.
At the 2006 Landscape Industries Association of Victoria awards, Kiama Landscapes was awrarded "Best Residential Landscape over $100K" for a project designed by cycas.
In 2007 Mark Browning from cycas designed the Fleming's and Trailfinders Australian Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show in London in May. As the only Australian entry, the team lead by Flemings Nurseries consisted of Kiama Landscapes and Paving, Lump Sculpture and Gardens at Night together with many product and service sponsors. Our show garden demonstrated a balance of strong architectural features and plantings. The main architectural elements included customised Lump Light Featues and Sculpture, a spectacular triangular pergola, and a feature wall fish tank. Key plantings included a grove of White Barked Birch, two Draecena dracos and a medieval copse of Weeping Purple Beech. Purple, burgundy and silver were the dominate foliage understorey. The Fleming's and Trailfinders Australian Garden was awarded a "Silver Gilt" Medal.
The 2008 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show provided cycas an opportunity to showcase a courtyard garden incorporating a spotted gum bench and day bed, Chelsea inspired planting and unique rusted sculpture and screens. The garden was awarded "Gold".
By the way, the name, cycas is the botanical name for cycad, a plant with prehistoric ancestry and timeless architectural strength and grace.
